Paediatric Vision
A child’s eyes are still developing until the age of 6. By 6 they should have great 20/20 vision.
Some kids eyes dont develop as they should and this leads to visual problems.
These problems can be assessed by our expert optometrist and provide you with a better understanding of your child’s visual system.
Glasses are not always the only answer to a child’s eye problems.
Visual Assessments for Children
Visual Acuity
We use different images, stimuli, pictures or letters depending on the age of the child to assess how well they can see distant and near object
Colour vision
We assess if the child’s rods and cones are functional with a colour vision test
Depth Perception
If a child contantly misses catching a ball or taking an object from your hand, they may have a problem judging depth either due to muscle imbalance or poor eye sight
Muscle Function Tests
Different techniques are used to assess if your child has a “squint” that can cause visual disturbances and depth perception issues.
Visual analysis skills
A perceptual skill that kids develop as they grow. It tests your child’s ability to analyse and copy what they see. Different levels for different ages.
Visual and Auditory integration
This tests the ability of the child to put down on paper things that they hear
Vision Therapy
A specialised service dedicated to enhancing and improving the function of the muscles in the eyes.
Spatial Integration
We assess your child’s ability to distinguish right from left and if they are aware of movements
