Comprehensive eye test
A detailed examination of all aspects of your eyes and vision for a tailor made solution to your eye problems.
Contact lens
Your eyes are assesses to determine if they are suitable for contact lenses and the type of contact lenses that would best fit them, We also teach you how to use and take care of the contact lenses prescribed to you.
Diabetes Monitoring
Diabetes can cause changes to the back of the eye. With our specialised camera we are able to take pictures of the back of your eye and monitor your retina for any changes. We will refer to an ophthalmologist if deemed necessary.
Drivers License Vision Screening
Make your drivers license renewal process easier by have your eyes tested by us. You will receive a driver’s eye test certificate if you pass the visual requirements as set out by South African law.
Paediatric eye test
Our optometrist has a special interest in preventing myopia (short-sightedness) and managing myopia to prevent kids’ eyes worsening faster.
Glaucoma screening
Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that leads to vision loss most often due to high eye pressures. This forms part of the comprehensive eye test or it can be done on its own. It involves measuring the eye pressures and examining the back of the eye.
Vision Therapy
A specialised service dedicated to enhancing and improving the function of the muscles in the eyes.
Corporate and Industrial Vision Screening
Occupational health and vision screening services are offered to companies, schools and industries to assess that visual needs for tasks are being met.
Our Optometrist
Afsana obtained her Bachelor of Optometry degree in 2013 from The University of KwaZulu Natal. She received the Best General Clinician award when qualifying. After working in private practice in Durban for four years in both the rural and urban communities, she relocated to Johannesburg in 2018, where she practiced at major optometry franchises. During these years she gained exposure to different facets of optometry. In 2019, she developed an interest in myopia and managing myopia and has subsequently trained in paediatric optometry and myopia control through the Paediatric Training Academy. Afsana practices with the latest tools to curb myopia and reduce its progression in kids. She is passionate about general optometry and continuous professional development whilst offering the latest designs in branded optical frames and sunglasses.
Spec-State is an independent optometrist that is part of the Optical Alliance group.
It was established to provide quality time to patients for a better eye care experience. Our well trained staff have many years of optical experience behind them and are ready to help you with your visual needs.
