Paediatric Vision
A child’s eyes should reach 20/20 vision by the age of 6.
Some are unable to achieve this due to either genetics or stimuli such as digital devices and too much indoor time.
Glasses may not always be the only answer to your child’s visual needs.
Kids eyes are constantly developing and changing and require testing every year.
Paediatric Visual Assessments
Visual Acuity
Different sized stimuli are preseted to a child depending on their age to assess how well they can see. We use letter, picture and Tumbling E charts
Colour Vision
Colour Vision assesses rods and cones to check if a child’s colour perception is intact. Boys are more likely to be colour blind than girls.
Depth Perception
The inability to catch a ball constantly or take something from your hand when held in front of them might be a cue to poor depth perception. This can be caused by poor muscle function or decreased vision
Muscle Function
A series of tests used to check if the child is “squint” and steps to take to correct this
Visual Analysis
Tests the ability to identify and correctly copy what they see
Visual Auditory Integration
Tests the child’s ability to translate what they hear onto paper.
Spatial Analysis
Tests the child’s self awareness and ability to integrate with surroundings.
Vision Therapy
A specialised service dedicated to enhancing and improving the function of the muscles in the eyes.
